In order to rekindle the spirit of nationalism and patriotism amongst youngsters, Food, Civil Supply and Consumers Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Tuesday advocated that there is immediate need to prominently promote the spectacular history of freedom struggle, the biographies of India’s iconic freedom fighters and martyrs in the school curriculum.He said that generations are needed to have knowledge of supreme sacrifices made by our great martyrs and freedom fighters for which he will personally talk with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.He was speaking in a state-level function organized on the birth anniversary of martyr Sukhdev in Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan here.After paying glowing tributes to the great son of the soil, he said that martyr Sukhdev was one of great freedom fighter of the country who had sacrificed his life for the nation. He said that the martyr motivated the youths to fight for the country's freedom in National College, Lahore and formed Naujawan Bharat Sabha.He claimed state government led by chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh is committed to fulfill the dreams of the martyrs and to invoke a sense of patriotism amongst the young generations, Punjab government will continue to hold state-level functions to commemorate the martyrs. 

The minister said that elimination of social evils and ensuring a peaceful country will be a real tribute to them and reiterated the state government is always available for any kind of help to martyrs' families.The students from Martyr Sukhdev Thapar Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar and Ramgarhia (Girls) Senior Secondary School, Millerganj gave a detailed presentation on the life of martyr Sukhdev.  Meanwhile, the family members of freedom fighters were also honoured.MLA Sanjay Talwar, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu also addressed the gathering.On the occasion, deputy commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal, Assistant Commissioner (G) Amarinder Singh Malhi, Joint Commissioner MC Kulpreet Singh, PPCC spokesperson Raman Subramaniam, Councillors Harkaran Singh Vaid, Narinder Sharma, Ishwarjot Singh Cheema, Bhajan Singh Detwal, and Nirmal Kairha and other prominent personalities and huge number of students were present.
