Students in several parts of the Valley on Thursday staged protests against recent the killing of locals in action by government forces in South Kashmir and Kangan area of Ganderbal.The clashes erupted as most parts of the Valley limbed back to normalcy following four days of shutdown and protests against killings in Shopian, Anantnag and Kangan.However, normal life remained crippled in south Kashmir districts of Shopian, Pulwama and Kulgam and Kokernag area of Anantnag.As the schools resumed in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Baramulla, Badipora, Anantnag and Budgam districts, students took to roads at several places and staged massive protests against the killings.Reports said that the students of Kashmir University (KU) also staged a protest demonstration at the varsity campus in Hazratbal here.According to GNS correspondent, the students from various departments assembled and marched in University campus. They Shouted anti-governmental, anti-administration pro-Azadi and anti-India slogans and carried banners reading, ‘Stop Genocide’, Free Kashmir’ ‘Stop killings’.
According to GNS, the students of Amar Singh College, Women’s college, Degree College Bemina, Islamia College Hawal and Central University Kashmir Nowgam Srinagar also took to streets and staged anti-government and pro-freedom slogans.The students of Central University of Kashmir (CUK) held a peaceful protest at the Nowgam campus to condemn the killings and express solidarity with their families.Funeral prayers in absentia were also offered for the slain militants and the civilians.Pro-freedom and anti-government were raised by the students during the demonstration.At Gogibagh, the students of Amar Singh College took to streets and staged protests. The police and para-military forces chased the students soon after the students came out of the campus and started raising slogans against the recent killings in Kashmir.In the meantime, students clashed with the forces by hurling rocks on them.The protesting students raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans and some protesting students reached the forces bunker near the Indore stadium and set it ablaze, reports added.
The students at SP School tried to come out on the MA Road but were pushed back by police. The students pelted stones on police, sparking off clashes. During the clashes, few students were detained, witnesses said.Scores of girl students of Women’s college tried to take out a rally and staged pro-freedom and anti-India protests. However, they were intercepted by police, resulting in a standoff between the two sides. Police used tear gas to disperse the students.The students of Degree College Kupwara and Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district also took out a rally and pelted stones on government forces. The police retaliated by chasing them and used tear smoke shells to disperse them.Meanwhile, reports of clashes were also received from Palhallan, Sumbal, Dialgam Anantnag, Gagrin, Shirmal in Shopian. In these clashes, 15 persons including students received minor injuries. Thirteen militants and five civilians were killed in clashes that followed the deaths. While our civilians were killed in south Kashmir, one youth was killed in Kangan. (GNS)
