The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations will only award grace marks in the ICSE and ISC exams in borderline cases from this year.The council has also decided to post the quantum of grace marks and the subjects in which they will be awarded on its official website, council secretary and chief executive Gerry Arathoon said on Monday."The council will declare on the website the quantum of grace marks awarded in each subject in a given year. The amount of marks and the subjects will vary from year to year. But grace marks will be awarded only in borderline cases," Arathoon told Metro.Till 2017, the council would not make public the quantum of grace marks and the subjects in which they were awarded."The decision to declare the details of grace marks has been taken to make the process more transparent," Arathoon said.The quantum of marks and the subjects will be decided based on the students' performance. The council will review the performance after all papers are evaluated and take a call, an official said."The council is yet to decide the maximum grace marks it would award. But it can't be too high as the council has to declare the quantum on its website. High grace marks will reflect poorly on the council's standards," the principal of a Calcutta school said."Till last year the council would award even 10 as grace marks.""The council never increased students' marks in bulk. But this is the first time we will be disclosing the details on our website," said Arathoon.
