Police on Sunday claimed to have saved lives of six foreign tourists in famous Dal Lake of Srinagar City after they were mistaken as braid choppers by the locals."About six foreign tourists were trapped by a group of mob at Kanikachi Mohalla very interior of Dal after being suspected them as braid choppers", a police officer said.The mob consisted about 2000 people and timely action of the police saved all of them, the officer said.The officer said that the local driver of the tavera had fled from the spot leaving all the tourists there, however, all the tourists saved by the concerned police team from the clutches of the violent mob.The people chased them as they were considering them as the braid choppers, the officer said.Pertinently,  a 70-year-old man was killed on Friday in Anantnag district after unknown persons mistaking him for a braid chopper threw a brick at him.Since last 10-days several such incidents also reported where people mistaking mostly mentally challenged as braid choppers and beaten them mercilessly.Meanwhile, the officer said that the miscreants involved in the violence will be dealt as per law and the strict legal action will be taken against those breaking law in the name of so called braid chopping.People are requested not to fall prey to rumors and its reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against attention seekers in the garb of braid chopping, he said.Besides, rumor mongers and mischief mongers will also be brought to book who take advantage of the situation to disturb the peaceful atmosphere, the officer added.
