Amid heavy flow of transport on almost all routes of the Valley including in summer capital here, shutdown in continuity of present uprising resumed in Kashmir on the call of joint resistance leadership Tuesday.Despite shutdown call, large numbers of private and public vehicles were seen plying all across the city roads since early morning. Besides, the auto-rickshaws, passenger cabs and two-wheelers in huge numbers also dominated city roads in clear defiance of shutdown of resistance leadership. However, the transport activity was less in Old City areas compared to civil lines and uptown areas. The majority of the shops, educational institutes, commercial establishments and petrol stations were closed in summer capital. But, the street vendors had set up their stalls in Lal Chowk and adjoining markets.

No incident of stone-pelting was reported from any part of the City between youths and government forces. The situation in other districts of the Valley was similar to summer capital. Witnesses said private vehicles, passenger cabs and buses were seen on inter-district roads and in main towns of the districts in south, centre and north Kashmir.Police said the day passed off normally but deployments in order to prevent any outbreak of protests remained in place. The joint resistance leadership has called for shutdown till Thursday in the weekly calendar. While there was no relaxation announced by the leadership today but people have been asked to resume their routine activities after 4pm on Wednesday and Thursday. The fresh protest calendar is expected to be issued tomorrow. There was no shutdown since Saturday last week till yesterday and the markets remained abuzz across Kashmir. (GNS)
