Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat has directed the concerned authorities to clear the decks for launching the first batch of PG Course in the Government Dental College, Jammu from the next academic session.During his maiden visit to Government Dental College here today, the Minister issued specific instructions to the Principal Dental College to personally look into the matter and take all appropriate measures to fulfill the mandatory requirements of Dental Council of India (DCI) like, creation of necessary infrastructure, and hostel facilities for the PG students well in time so that the classes are commenced during the next session.The Minister received detailed feed-back about the functioning of the Dental College and Hospital from the Principal and other functionaries and stressed the need for creating better atmosphere in the institution for the patients and making optimum use of the newly constructed complex. He emphasized the need for speedy execution of on-going construction work in the old complex without hampering the routine affairs of the institution.

To address the issue of parking in the Dental College, the Minister directed for submitting a comprehensive DPR for construction of an exclusive parking space on the pattern of Government Medical College as per the requirements within a week’s time. He also issued instructions for outsourcing the sanitation of the entire complex to the Sulabh International, saying that sanitation is the serious issue and this cannot maintained without a dedicated effort, for which the Sulabh is the appropriate agency for the same. He said that Government has already initiated a move to outsource sanitation of all the District Level Hospitals in the state to the Sulabh International which has been doing yeoman’s service in the country, said the Minister.The issue of transfer of old Psychiatric hospital land to the Dental College was also discussed in detail and Minister directed for submitting a proposal to the Administrative Department for appropriate decision. He also listened to the grievances of the doctors and para-medics and assured to address these on priority.Principal Government Dental College, Dr. Romesh Singh, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sunita Puri and HoDs Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Dr. Bhawna Koul, Dr. Arvind Mengi, Dr. Iqbal Singh, Dr. Manik Sharma, Dr. Akshay Gupta and Dr. Renu Gupta were present on the occasion.
