UMEED declares 184 VOs as Self Sustainable

Jammu and Kashmir State Rural Livelihood Mission (UMEED) has declared 184 Village Organizations (VOs) of Jammu Division as Self Sustainable.

Each village organization comprising various Self Help Groups (SHG) with women as their members is declared as Self Sustainable after its annual net income rise to Rupees fourty thousand per annum.To recognize their accomplishment, the Presidents and other functionaries of these Self Sustained Village Organizations were today felicitated by Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice, Abdul Haq.Highlighting the role of UMEED programme, the Minister said that it aims at socio-economic transformation of rural underprivileged women folk. He said that basic aim of this programme is to reduce poverty by enabling the poor household to attain gainful self employment avenues by creating strong and sustainable grass root institutions.

The Minister said that these Village Organizations will continue to cater  to the micro financial needs of Self Help Groups and will manage their administrative cost of earnings on inter loaning adding that UMEED covers all the districts of the state and urged the women to avail the benefits of this revolutionary programme.He said also called upon the rural youth particularly girls to avail the skill development training being provided under Himayat programmeThe Minister said Union Government has approved Rs 1,600 crore for Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) under skill development initiative ‘Himayat’ programme. “Under it, the youth from both rural and urban areas of J&K are being imparted training in various job-intensive vocational courses over the next three years” he said adding the youth enrolled under this scheme will be given training for six-months, nine-months and one year in job-oriented courses  in and outside the state” He said the scheme also has a provision for placement of the trained youth in and outside the country.

Later the Minister felicitated the VOs by presenting certificates of appreciation to the presidents. He also interacted with the members of the SHGs and inquired from them about their working and achievements.Mission Director NRLM, Dr. G. N. Qasba, Director Rural Development Department Jammu, Pardeep Kumar, Additional Director NRLM Jammu, Kapil Sharma, State Project Manager (Financial Inclusion) Madan Gupta and other senior functionaries of the department were also present on the occasion.
