The Government has initiated the seeding of the bank account with the Aadhaar number for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) transactions for release of scholarships provided by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and University Grants Commission (UGC).As per Higher Education Department, from the financial year 2016-17 onwards Aadhaar number will be used as an identifier for disbursement of all Government subsidies, scholarships which would be disbursed directly into the bank account of the beneficiary seeded with the Aadhaar Number.The students, who are beneficiaries of Central Sector of Scholarship for Colleges and Universities, need to have a proper Aadhaar Number and the scholarships shall be released only in favour of beneficiaries registered under Aadhaar seeded in respective Bank Account Numbers. The applications under Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University students need to be routed through National e-Scholarship Portal (NeSP) of Government of India and proper awareness among the students in this regard must be ensured.
It has been reiterated that Universities/Colleges should take a pro-active role in uploading the relevant data regarding non- DBT beneficiaries on the web portal of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)/University Grants Commission (UGC) in the best interests of beneficiaries.For the students who are not registered under Aadhaar, necessary steps should be taken for their enrollment in a campaign mode, by the Colleges and Universities.The students are advised to apply on-line for the scholarship under Centre Sector of scholarship scheme of Government of India through National-e-Scholarship Portal (NeSP) using Aadhaar seeded Bank accounts for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). For this September 30, 2016 has been set as the last date for applying on line for scholarship for college and University students which will not be extended under any circumstances.
