The family members of two students from Srinagar city Saturday alleged that police have been ‘pushing’ their sons towards militancy. “Every time something untoward happens in the locality, our houses are being raided and sons are arrested,” the parents from Lawaypora HMT Srinagar who appeared in Press Enclave here told news agency CNS.“My house was ransacked during nocturnal raid on Friday night. Police were looking for my son Mubashir Ahmed who was not present in the house. I am afraid that my son will join militant ranks if police continue to ‘harass’ him,” said Muhammad Shafi Laway. He added that a few months back when his son Mubashir was preparing for class 10th examination, the police arrested him as a result he missed three papers. “Police already ruined the career of my child now they are pushing him towards militancy,” Laway said.Ghulam Muhammad Lone the father of another youth said what police should expect from a youth whom they detain in lock up the day he is supposed to appear in his class 12th examination.

“This has happened to my son Adil Ahmed. Recently, police arrested him on charges of stone-pelting and didn’t allow him to appear in the examination and kept him in lock up on the day when he was scheduled to appear in the examination. He was released only after his examination paper was over. Isn’t it a deliberate attempt to ruin the career of Kashmiri youth and push them towards militancy,” he questioned.Pertinently, on Friday night according police raided the houses of Ghulam Muhammad Lone and Muhammad Shafi Parray at Lawaypora HMT in the outskirts of Srinagar city. Due to stiff resistance shown by people of the area, police failed to nab the alleged stone-pleters.When contacted a police official from Parimpora police station said police never harass or arrest any innocent youth.  “We make arrests only after watching videos of stone-pelting incidents. First we identify and then call them for counseling. (CNS)
