Amid curfew, strike, pro-freedom slogans reverberate in Srinagar Masjids

All business establishments closed to protest against civilian killings

Amid third consecutive strike in the Valley on Monday, Pro-freedom slogans and songs were reverberating in the local Masjids in Srinagar.Witnesses said that since this afternoon, pro-freedom slogans and songs were reverberating in the local Masjids here to mark the protest against the civilian killings that took place during the clashes between youth and forces in different areas of Kashmir following the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani.

“Sabeeluna Sabeeluna Al-Jihad-o-Al-Jihad and we want freedom were reverberating in the Masjids, in several areas,” witnesses informed KNS.Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was also observed in Kashmir Valley to mark a protest against the civilian killings.Pertinently, the face of Kashmir militancy and Hizb commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani and his two associates were killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.

Soon after the news of killing spread, clashes erupted in most parts of the Valley during which 30 protesters were killed including a cop. Nonetheless there was no official confirmation about the death toll in the cycle of ongoing violence here.Hundreds of civilians were also injured during the clashes between youth and forces in cycle of ongoing violence triggered after Burhan’s death.About a hundred police personnel have also received injuries in clashes while a cop was also killed in Sangam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district after protesters push vehicle into river Jhelum.Scores of police stations and ambulances were also damaged during the clashes between youth and forces in different areas of Kashmir.Meanwhile, separatists called for shutdown after the killing of Burhan Wani, which was later extended for two more days on Sunday and Monday.Both the factions of Hurriyat and JKLF have further extended the call for more two days. “We appeal people to observe complete shutdown on Tuesday and Wednesday,” they in a joint statement said.
