Eight civilians killed during clashes in Kashmir: Police

‘3 police officials missing, 96 injured’

Police on Saturday said that eight civilians lost their lives during the ongoing violence in Kashmir.Addressing a news conference here at PCR, Additional Director General of Police (CID) S M Sahai and Inspector General of Police Kashmir zone Javaiad Mujtaba Gillani said that eight civilian lost their lives during the ongoing violence in Kashmir following the killing of most popular Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani while one among them died due to drowning. 

“96 police officials sustained injuries during the clashes while three police personnel are missing. Some weapons were also taken away by the youth,” he said.The civilians who lost their lives during the clashes in Kashmir were identified as Amir Bashir Khan of Verinag, Saqib Manzoor Mir, Yawar Manzoor both residents of Khundroo Achabal, Aijaz Ahmad Thakur of Siligam Ashmuqam, Muhammad Asif Dar of Halpora Kokernag and Showkat Ahmad of Hassan pora Ariwan Bijbehara. They said that following the killing of three militants in Kokernag on Friday, violent clashes occurred in various parts of the Valley. “Unruly mobs attacked security forces, civil, police establishments and vital installations thorough the Valley,” they said, adding that violent incidents of arson and stone pelting were reported from Achabal, Kokernag, Kund, Qazigund, DH Pora, Vessu, Dooru, Sangam, Awantipora, Pulwama, Bomai, Sopore, Baramullah, Palhallan, Pattan, Delina, Gantamullah, Sheeri, Kreeri, Lalpora, Bandipora, Narbal, Lasjan, Barzullah, Nowgam, Tengpora and Batamaloo.

They said that at many places the most forcibly tried to enter security force establishments with the intention to seize weapons and harm force personnel. Two police stations DH pora, Achabal, tehsil office Kokernag and police post Kund, Qazigund were set on fire. “The mob looted weapons from police station DH pora and police personnel were fired upon. Three police men are missing. The camps of Sangam, Larnoo, Seer, Gopalpora, Mattan Kokernag, Dooru, and Janglat Mandi were attacked,” they said. (KNS)
