Sopore shuts to mourn death of top Hizb militant

A spontaneous shutdown is being observed on Wednesday in apple town Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district to mourn the death of Sameer Ahmad Wani, a top Hizb militant who was killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Nagri area of Kupwara district.According to KNS correspondent, all the shops and business establishments are closed while the traffic is also thin on roads.Meanwhile, witnesses said that clashes erupt between youth and forces in several areas of Sopore. Witnesses said that the youth took to streets and chanted pro-freedom slogans. “

They tried to set ablaze a CRPF bunker near new colony during the clashes were ongoing between youth and forces,” they said, police resorted to tear smoke shells to disperse the agitated youth.A top Hizb militant identified as Sameer Ahmad Wani, son of Muhammad Samandar Wani, resident of Sopore, who joined Hizb, a militant outfit in the year 2014 and was Divisional Commander for north Kashmir was killed in a gunfight with forces in Nagri area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.The slain Sopore militant was laid to rest on Tuesday evening at around 06:00 PM amid-intense pro-freedom sloganeering in his native village.
