Health minister launches diabetes campaign

Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Wednesday inaugurated diabetes campaign, an initiative through which patients can get information and ways to prevent diabetes via a missed call.According to the ministry, under the initiative with a missed call to 011-22901701 the caller can get information on diabetes and how to prevent and manage it. One can also log on to www.mdiabetes.nhp.gov.in for more information.On the occasion, Nadda also launched the guidelines for screening of diabetes, hypertension and common cancer. "I am sure that the guidelines shall help the programme managers in planning and implementing the screening at mass level," said Nadda. Nadda was speaking at the inauguration of National Conference on Prevention and Control of Major Non-communicable Diseases in India. AYUSH minister Shripad Yesso Naik was also present on the occasion. 

The minister also launched training manuals for different levels of health workers who are engaged in non-communicable diseases (NCD) prevention and control, survey of risk factors for NCDs to generate prospective national level estimates. Among other initiatives taken towards health improvement programmes, the ministry also launched the second round of Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) for systematically monitoring adult tobacco use and tracking key tobacco control indicators.
