The residents of Gantamulla villagers in district Baramulla Tuesday staged protest against National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) for ‘failing to provide adequate electricity in their area’.The protesters assembled at the main road and blocked the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway for one hour. They while chanting slogans against the department demanded adequate electricity in their area.According to KNS correspondent, the inhabitants of at least 15 villages who jointly protested against the department said that they are receiving electricity under the NHPC power supply line and from past several days they are getting electricity in their area due to which they are facing tremendous hardships.After the protesters blocked the highway, the area witnessed massive traffic jam thereby leaves the commuters and the passengers in the vehicles to suffer.Eye-witnesses said that hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the either side of the road.Meanwhile, Tehsildar Baramulla visited the spot and assured protesters that the genuine demands will be redressed soon.The protesters later dispersed peacefully.
