President Awami Itihad Party Er Rasheed today has indicated that he will resign from State Legislature if police and other security agencies continue to impose restrictions on his movement and don’t stop their unjustified and undemocratic attitude towards him. Addressing an overcrowded press conference in Srinagar today, he read out the contents of a letter which he has written to Governor and the Speaker, seeking their intervention in the matter. Er Rasheed quoted some sixteen incidents during last one year, when police restricted him either to his residence or deported him back. He said that police and civil administration don’t allow him to travel Chenab Valley, Pir-Panchal region and few parts of Kashmir valley time and again. Rasheed said, “He has nothing personal with the police or some other security agencies but state is forcing them to do worst with me and the act is condemnable and I feel suffocated working in such atmosphere. The attitude and the treatment is an insult to the democratic institutions and to the people whom I represent. If Indian state is not ready to listen the genuine voice of an elected legislator, how can common men expect his Fundamental Rights to be protected.” Er Rasheed requested Speaker to treat his letter as privilege motion against SSP Baramulla and SSP Anantnag for the ill treatment they gave to me. He said that if Governor and the Speaker failed to restore my dignity and rights, I will approach the Hon’ble Court for the justice and will not hesitate from resigning if Governor and the Speaker failed to address the seriousness of the matter.
