Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today said that the Akali-BJP alliance will not be able to win a single seat in the coming parliamentary elections in the state. “Given their all round failure, I doubt whether they will even be able to save their

security deposits”, he remarked.Talking to reporters at the residence of Dhuri MLA and PCC General Secretary, Arvind Khanna, here today, Capt Amarinder said that there was widespread disillusionment and alienation among the people and they will teach the alliance a lesson in the coming parliamentary elections. The PCC President had a stopover for about an hour at the residence of Mr Khanna where he was accorded a rousing reception. He met hundreds of party workers before embarking on further journey to Rampura Phull in Bathinda district. He was accompanied by the Congress Legislative Party leader Sunil Jakhar, Barnala MLA and PCC vice president Kewal Dhillon, PCC general secretary Fateh Jang Singh Bajwa, former minister Chiranji Lal Garg and several other senior party leaders. The former Chief Minister stated that even if the elections were held right now they will not be able to win a single seat and by the year 2014 they may not be even able to save their security deposits. He said, the state was likely to impose Rs 9000 crores of taxes and the brunt will be borne by the common and poor people of the state.Replying to a question over Sanjha Morcha’s refusal to join the Congress sponsored protests against the taxes on September 7, Capt Amarinder said, the morcha had actually not refused the support but had said that they had short time to join the protests. He clarified that it was just a beginning and moreover it was not aimed at any political alliance or understanding but just one point agenda of opposing the government’s punitive taxation. He pointed out, Sanjha Morcha had agreed with the Congress to oppose the taxes as they were also staging protests against the taxes on September 21.To another question about the activities of some rebels, the PCC President reiterated that he had not recommended any action against anyone and he had invited all the party men to join the protests.
