Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings Choudhary Lal Singh Monday inaugurated blood donation camp at Government Medical College, here.Principal, Government Medical College, Jammu, Dr. Zahid Jeelani was also present on the occasion. As many as 3000 volunteers donated blood during the said camp.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister highlighted importance of voluntary blood donation. He said such blood donation camps help blood banks keep a store of different groups of blood, which could be used to save lives in times of emergency and otherwise.The Minister appealed to all especially the youth to come forward and donate blood voluntarily and help save lives.Enumerating some of the major reforms taken by the Government to provide quality healthcare to people of the State, the Minister said that the government is making concerted efforts to maintain a better healthcare delivery system in the State.

Speaking on the occasion he congratulated volunteers, doctors and students who donated blood at the camp. He also felicitated volunteers who had donated blood on several such occasions.The Minister stressed upon doctors and NGOs to help spread awareness among the masses with regard to voluntary blood donation and its benefits to the society.Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Baljeet Singh Pathania, Director Family Welfare, Dr. Baldev Raj Sharma besides other senior officers of the Health and Medical Education department were also present on the occasion.Later, the Minister also visited Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar and inspected ‘students painting exhibition’ organized by Indian Art Centre, Jammu.The Minister also distributed prizes among students of different schools who participated in the painting exhibition.
