Sham asks women to avail benefits of welfare schemes

Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today distributed sewing machines amongst 110 SC/ST women and girls at a function organized by the Social Welfare Department at Akhnoor.These beneficiaries have also undergone training in cutting and tailoring in the Centres sponsored by the Social Welfare Department at different places in Akhnoor block. The initiative will help the beneficiaries to promote their skill and make them self-reliant.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Government was committed to empower the women folk, especially in the rural and far-flung areas and numerous programmes have been launched in this direction. He asked the beneficiaries to take full advantage to these initiatives and become self-dependent and lead a dignified life. He asked the Sarpanchs/Panchs to motivate the poor and down-trodden women beneficiaries to avail benefits of such schemes and improve their living conditions. He directed the officers of Social Welfare Department to set up adequate number of Centres of different trades for the rural women so that more and more women/girls/destitute are trained in skill development. He also called for organizing frequent awareness camps to educate the rural beneficiaries about the Government schemes so that the benefits of such programmes percolate down to the needy.Sarpanchs/Panchs, sectoral officers of various departments, prominent citizens and large number of people were present on the occasion.
