The Indian Army on Friday killed six militants and an 'overground' worker of the NSCN-K in Nagaland, officials said. The dead include a woman cadre.

According to the army, three 'overground' workers of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang group and a security force personnel were also injured in the operation in Tuensang district. The operation took place early morning at Pangsha area in Tuensang located close to the India-Mynamar border in the state, defence spokesman Lt. Col. Suneet Newton said.Security forces were carrying out a routine patrol of the border area along Pangsha, when they saw a motorcycle, and two vehicles approaching. As the security forces asked the motorcycle to halt for checking, cadres in the two vehicles fired. The security forces retaliated leading to the death of seven militants, he said.

A large quantity of arms and ammunition were also recovered from the slain cadres.Reports said the cadres were from the NSCN-K camp located in Ponyu village inside Myanmar and belong to the group headed by 'commander' Niki Sumi. The army has been cracking down on militants since an army convoy was ambushed by terrorists in Chandel district of Manipur on June 4, killing 18 soldiers and injuring 15 others.Following the attack, a surgical operation was carried out along the India-Myanmar border and at least two terrorist camps were targeted.Reports also said NSCN-K cadres from camps located inside Myanmar have been coming to the border villages of India for extorting money from villagers, and to buy ration and other daily necessities.
