Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani continued to remain under house arrest and Friday on 28 August he was again forcibly stopped from offering the Friday congregational prayers by the police and he was not allowed to come out of his house.Friday extra police force was deployed in civics around the residence of Syed Ali Geelani this morning and an additional police vehicle was placed at the entrance of the Rehmatabad Hyderpora lane.While strongly condemning the government action, Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said that the continuous imprisonment of the pro-freedom leader is negatively affecting his health and this detention has become a curse for him.Hurriyat (G) appealed the Amnesty International and other human rights organizations to take serious notice of the unwanted imprisonment of the 86 years old Kashmiri leader and use their influence for his release.
While giving reference of the judgment of 27 August of the honorable Judge Justice Hasnain Masoodi, Hurriyat (G) spokesman said that Syed Ali Geelani is also being imprisoned at his home in the name of preventive detention and police has so far failed in producing any court order or any administrative document in support of this illegal detention that under which section and which act of the law is he being confined in his house and what is the justification in turning his residence into a sub-jail.Hurriyat (G) spokesman advised the administration that they should respect the said high court judgment and immediately put an end to the illegal preventive detention of Syed Ali Geelani and remove the cordon of the police from his house otherwise it will be the contempt of the court and government have to be accountable for that.
In a statement to KNS, Hurriyat (G) said that the house arrest process of the Syed Ali Geelani remained unchanged even in the Mufti Sayeed government regime and he is continuously being detained in his house likewise in the Omer Abdullah government.Spokesman said that the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government has completed its 6 months in power but during this period he not a single time explained that why is being Syed Ali Geelani put under house arrest and where he left his slogan of “Battle of Ideas”. Mehbooba Mufti was found of criticizing Omer Abdullah for imprisoning Syed Ali Geelani at his home and stopping him from offering the Friday prayers but now she too prefers to remain mum and doesn’t comment over this issue. According to the Hurriyat (G), the house arrest of Syed Ali Geelani is the grave human rights violation and it has no moral or constitutional justification. (KNS)
