Minister of State for Education, Information & Culture, Priya Sethi, today paid surprise visit to Islamia College of Science & Commerce here and took stock of its functioning.Director, Higher Education, Dr Tariq Ahmed Kawoos accompanied the Minister.The Minister inspected various departments and laboratories, including Commerce, Computer Science, Zoology, Botany, Physics, Business Administration, Smart Class, library, administrative block, Botanical Garden and obtained first hand information about the functioning of these establishments.The Minister also checked the attendance register of faculty members and non-teaching staff and called for maintaining punctuality in the institution. She interacted with the Principal, faculty members and students and enquired about the functioning and facilities available in the institution.
The Minister was highly impressed by the Smart Class facility introduced in the College and called for optimum use of modern technology to keep the students abreast about the educational activities world around.Expressing satisfaction about the functioning of the College, the Minister impressed upon the Principal and other faculty members to put in their best efforts to make this premier institution one of the best knowledge hub and extra-curricular activities in the State. She urged the Principal and faculty to strengthen the Counselling/Placement Cell with proper linkage with reputed corporate houses in the country to facilitate the students for their absorption after completing their degrees. She also called for maintaining a data bank of all pass out students about their professional career to inspire the freshers. She also called for arranging business/industrial trips for the students of management studies department to enrich their professional knowledge.
The Principal, Dr. Mohammad Aslam Baba briefed the Minister about the academic and other activities of the College. He said that Islamia College is one of the oldest and premier institutions in the Valley which was established in 1961. He said the College has rich history of producing the best scholars, who not only brought laurels for the State, but for the country as well. He said the College has made tie-ups with various reputed companies in India for the placement of passing out students of management studies. He said the institute provides proper counselling to the aspiring students about the job opportunities in various fields and facilitates them properly for getting placements.The Minister was further informed that the college has well equipped labs and library to facilitate the students for undertaking research work. The college also organizes all kinds of sports and competitive events from time to time to instill competitive spirits among the students, he added.
