Cop, civilian killed in Sopore attack

A policeman and a civilian were killed after suspected militants attacked a police post guarding a shrine at Tujer Sharief in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.A police official told GNS that militants, believed to be two in numbers, opened indiscriminate fire upon the policemen, guarding the shrine, in Tujjar Shareef this afternoon.In the incident, a policeman identified as Fayaz Ahmad of Wadura, Sopore and a civilian Abdul Rahim Lone (70) sustained serious bullet injuries. 

Both the injured were shifted to nearby hospital where doctors declared the cop as dead on arrival.The civilian Abdul Rahim, a handicapped person, succumbed to the injuries later, sources said.Being a local resident, Rahim, they said, used to stay at the shrine and attends the devotees who come from all parts of the Valley.The assailants also decamped with the service rifle (INSAS) of the deceased cop, they added.
