Five crime suspects were killed as a contingent of the Bangladesh Army carried out an ambush at the shelter of around 20 terrorists while they were preparing to bring out crimes at Dokhaiapara under Baghaichhari sub –district in Rangamati hill district early Saturday, said Zakir Hossain Fakir, officer in-charge, Baghaichhari Police Station.The police disclosed the identity of one of the miscreants as Rupayan Chakma, 30. The identities of the others could not be known immediately. Referring to Bangladesh Army, the police official said the troop led by Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Siddique, commander, Baghaihat zone started the ambush at Dokhaiapara at around 2:30 am Bangladesh time which was continued till 4:30am.
Sensing the presence of the army, the miscreants started to fire gunshots at them triggering gunfight between the army and the miscreants. ‘Five miscreants were killed during the ambush,’ said the officer in-charge. Army man Liakat Ali was injured during the gunfight, the OC added.The police official also said three members of the terrorists were arrested by the army while the others managed to flee.Seven firearms, including one pistol, one SMG, two rifles, three SLRs, and 500 rounds of bullets were recovered from the spot, said police.
