As the protest over the delay in implementing the One Rank One Pension (OROP) continues, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had little to say in his broadcast to the armed forces ahead of Independence Day except that it has the government's "highest priority".The minister, in his customary radio broadcast, said he is dedicated towards "welfare of ex-servicemen". "My dear jawans, since I took over the reins of defence ministry in November last year, it has been my constant endeavour to work towards the welfare and well-being of serving and ex-Servicemen," Parrikar said."Various welfare measures pertaining to pension including broadbanding, ex-gratia compensation and OROP are receiving highest priority of the government," he said. The speech however did not have any details on the time line for implementation of the scheme, which is one of the demands of the agitating ex-servicemen.
