48 militants killed in Kashmir so far

With the killing of two militants in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district the number of militants killed during encounters with the government forces this year has reached to 48. Most of the militants killed this year were locals.In the first two weeks of August this month, 7 militants have been killed during different gun fights in North and South Kashmir.  Last year (2014) in August alone, 16 militants were gunned down by government forces in different encounters while the total number of militants killed during last year till August was 61.In 2014 last year, the militancy related incidents claimed 220 lives in Jammu and Kashmir. Among the 220 dead, 106 were militants, 52 were civilians, 39 were Army personnel, 4 were BSF personnel and 2 were CRPF men. Till date this year 104 persons have fallen prey to bullets in the State which included 48 militants, 22 civilians, 17 Army men, 5 BSF troopers and 2 CRPF men. (CNS)
