A meeting of Zila Lok Shiksha Samiti (ZLSS) was today held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Mr. Bashir Ahmad Khan to take stock of the implementation status of Saakshar Bharat Mission (SBM) - a mission of Union Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD)- in the district.The meeting was attended by ADC, Anantnag, ACD, Anantnag, DPO, Chief Education Officer, Coordinator BSM, all ZEOs and BDOs of the district.
District Development Commissioner, who is the District Coordinator of the SBM informed that the mission is aimed at providing adult literacy to the uneducated adults and impressed upon the officers to work dedicatedly to realise the goals as enshrined in the mission.
Besides, the preparation with regard to conducting of the Learners Assessment Test on August 23, 2015 was also reviewed. Fixing of examination centres, staff deputation, dispatch and collection of question and answer papers and other associated issued were also finalised in the meeting.District Development Commissioner gave details of the mission and also highlighted its achievements. It was pointed out that the ZLSS survey identified 1, 77,743 adults as illiterates of the age group of 15-35 years from which a target of 42,369 has been fixed for 2017. It is expected that 7425 adults shall appear in the test to be conducted on August 23. Those who qualify the test will be provided training in various skills. An allocation of Rs 94 lacs has been made for the mission out of which Rs 76 lacs has been utilised so far.The mission is operated at various levels with District Coordinator being the apex nodal point at district level. At block level, the mission is coordinated by concerned BDO and ZEO. The mission is implemented in 297 gram Panchayats of the district.
