A blogger was hacked to death inside his residence at North Goran in the capital Dhaka at around 1:45 pm on Friday. He was killed by unknown miscreants on the top floor of a four –story building, said Mustafizur Rahman, officer in-charge, Khilgaon Police Station.The dead was identified as Niloy Chakrabarty Neel who used to write articles using the Name Niloy Neel on his blog Station. He was and activist of Committee to Protect Oil, Gas Natural and Resources, a platform that is founded to carry out protest against government steps to lease the country’s natural resources to other countries. The committee observed a long march programme against the construction of Rampal Power Plant that was being implemented by an Indian company. The country’s reputed online news portal released photograph in which blogger Niloy was seen protesting against the construction of Rampal Power Plant.He was also an activist of Ganajagaran Mancha, said Imran H Sarkar,
On the news of Niloy’s murder, Ganajagaran Mancha activists and leaders of Left-leaning student organisations thronged the North Gorhan building. In February, writer-blogger Avijit Roy was hacked to death near the Dhaka University’s TSC. His wife and fellow blogger Rafida Ahmed Bonya was also badly injured in the brutal attack.NGO employee Niloy had been living with his family members at his residence, said the police.He was the fourth blogger to have been killed in the country this year.
