In view of the militant attack on BSF convoy in Udmapur district in which two BSF constables died, the authorities beefed up security on the National highway.The State government has also asked the police to start special patrolling teams that will guard the highway and conduct vehicle checking.A senior police official wishing anonymity told KNS that suspicious vehicles are checked on National Highway at many places like Ramban, Banihal, Qazigund. “Additional reinforcements have been deployed for checking the vehicles” he said and added that they have also briefed respective police stations on the highway to keep a watch on suspicious movements and take other security measures as per orders.
He also said that the police have beefed up security along all major areas of highways to curb any possible terror attack.
Meanwhile, security has also been beefed up in entire Jammu and Kashmir and additional security has been put in strategic locations.Reports said that the security forces are also checking the vehicles at different points on highway with the help of dog squads to rule out the possibility militant attacks.
Police sources also told KNS that security has also been beefed up in district headquarters and all top police officials has been asked to remain vigilant and stationed in their respective areas.It is pertinent to mention here that in the recent past many incidents of militant attacks took place on the highway in which they targeted the security forces.Top sources from New Delhi told KNS that Union home Ministry has asked the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir to chalk out an immediate strategy to modify its security set up on highways. “Directions from the Union home ministry have been passed to the Security agencies of Jammu and Kashmir for immediate modification of the security set up of national highways,” sources told KNS.The DGP CRPF, DG BSF Thursday met the Governor N.N Vohra and discussed with him the overall security situation of Jammu and Kashmir. “Besides the militant attack on BSF convoy their focus remained on overall security plan of Jammu and Kashmir,” sources said.
