The officials of toll post, Lower Munda, have foiled smuggling bid by two employees of the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC).Sources told CNS that an SRTC passenger bus coming from New Delhi to Srinagar bearing registration No.JK01Y-562 loaded with copper, spear parts and garments was intercepted by the excise inspectors and guards under the supervision of excise and taxation officer of toll post, Lower Munda, Hamid Hameed.The driver and conductor Farooq Lamba and Nisar Ahmed of the vehicle were trying to flee away through an illicit route without payment of Toll and Vat. “There were at least 23 passengers in the bus but he action of the driver forced us to conduct search and we found the driver in connivance with the conductor had illegally brought goods worths lakhs from New Delhi and were about o unload them in Srinagar. A penalty of Rs 1 lakh 93 thousand were imposed upon them. On Friday the bus was released after the duo cleared their penalty,” Excise official Hamid Hameed said.When contacted General Manager Operations SRTC Farhat Ahmed told CNS that action will be initiated against the driver and conductor as they have not only been misuing the vehicles of the Corporation but are also responsible for bringing a bad name to the Corporation.
