To keep National Highway open during winter and to combat any eventuality during snowfall and heavy rains, District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone today reviewed the meeting held at Dak Bungalow Khanabal today. The meeting held threadbare discussion with regard to the preparedness for relief and rescue operations and snow clearness/disaster on National Highway.
It was given out in the meeting that a Joint Control Room will be made operational at Qazigund besides one at District Headquarters. To facilitate the stranded passengers during any eventuality, Disaster Management Centres have been established at various places including Jawahar Tunnel, Zig, Lower Mundah, Sadiwara, Gulab Bagh, Qazigund and Levdoora. Deputy Director CA&PD revealed that sufficient quality of Rice, Atta, Sugar, Kerosene Oil and other necessities are being stored at these locations. The Ambulance Services, medicines, portable oxygen cylinders, emergency drugs are being arranged enroute the National Highway from Qazigund to Tunnel. Adequate number of blankets have been stored at different Disaster Management Centres. Firewood and other required essentials have also been arranged, the meeting was informed.District Development Commissioner directed the concerned officers to utilize all available men and machinery during the snow clearance operations. Besides dozers, JCB’s and modern machines rescue teams have also been kept ready by CRPF.
The meeting besides others was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, SSP, Commandant CRPF and senior officers of Army, Police, Traffic and District Administration attended the meeting.
