Led by BJP Senior leader from Reasi Jagdish Raj Shastri (Kundra), a large number of baridar pujaris from Katra and surrounding areas called on BJP Veteran leader & former Dy. Prime Minister of India L.K. Advani at New Delhi on his birthday. They, besides extending their greetings on the day, also apprised him of the plight of the baridar pujaris.Jagdish Raj Shastri, while narrating the miseries of these people, said that after the constitution of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in 1986, over 20,000 baridar pujaris were rendered helpless and left at the care of God. During all these years they have suffered a lot. Although they were promised of some percentage of share in the offerings at the holy shrine, provision of jobs to their kiths and kins in the board and financial assistance to the poor families amongst them during the weddings of their daughters. He regretted that till date not even a single promise has been fulfilled. The baridar pujaris have been running from pillar to post with representations and pleas but no attention is paid toward their cries.Shastri further said that the matter had also been even brought into the notice of the than Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and it was expected that the matter will be resolved with the intervention of the PMO but unfortunately the NDA did not get a second chance and the matter remained unresolved.L.K. Advani, gave a patient hearing to the baridar pujaris and assured that he will personally take up their case with the concerned authorities and ask for acceding the long pending unfulfilled promises.
