Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani continues to remain under house arrest and today his house detention process completed 100 days under the Mufti Sayeed rule and during this period he was 14th time today stopped from participating in the Friday congregational prayers, a spokesman of the conglomerate said in a statement to KNS.

In a statement to KNS, Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said, “Geelani Sahab returned from New Delhi on 15 April and from then he is continuously under the house detention and his detention has completed a century (100 days) today and his political, social, religious and even his personal activities has been completely banned. Today the presence of the police force was increased to the extraordinary level around the Hyderpora residence of Geelani Sahab.

The police personals present there closely monitor the visitors visiting the Hyderpora office. Geelani Sahab as usual remained under the house arrest and despite his extreme desire to offer Friday prayers he couldn’t perform this important religious duty.”“House arrest status of the Geelani Sahab showed no change in the Mufti’s rule too and instead of producing any justification he is being imprisoned in his own house just on the barrel of gun like in the past. His house detention have although completed 100 days but government has so far failed to explain that under which section and act of law is Geelani Sahab being confined to the four walls of his house. No court or administrative order is being produced to justify the illegal detention of Geelani Sahab,” he added. The Hurriyat (G) spokesman expressed his surprise that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti are yet to say anything on the continuous detention of Geelani “whereas when they were in opposition, they were regularly criticizing Omer Abdullah for imprisoning the senior most pro-freedom leader in his house and even not allowing him to offer the Friday prayers.”

“Mufti Sayeed has actually surrendered his entire agenda before BJP for the chair and he is now following the orders from Nagpur headquarters. ‘Strong politician’ hypothesis about Mufti Sahab has got badly exposed and he has proven to be a weak and chief minister only for name just like his predecessors Omer Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah. Not only that he has no say in the governing process but he had practically sidelined himself and he had surrendered all his powers to BJP and the Indian agencies. He only prefers to attend the board meetings and try to befool the people by making hollow claims of constructing or repairing of bridges and roads,” Akbar claimed.

The Hurriyat (G) spokesman also strongly condemned the house arrest of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat general secretary Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and arrest of other Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leaders Mohammad Yousuf Falahi and Nazir Ahmad Mantoo and said that the government is chocking the space of the pro-freedom people and instead of facing them on political turf, the administration is “using cheap tactics to muzzle the just voice of the Kashmiri pro-freedom leaders.”“It is an immoral and undemocratic action which should be condemned at every level. Hurriyat appeals the human rights organizations to take immediate notice of the situations in Jammu & Kashmir and use their influence to stop the grave human rights violations in this region,” he added.
