Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Ajay Singh Jamwal chaired a meeting of officers to discuss “Clean and Green Mission” under Swach Bharat Mission to be kick started on 28th July 2015 in the district.ADDC Kathua, S. Manmohan Singh, ACD Kathua, DPO, CMO, DEPO, DFO, XEN REW, Scientist (PCB) and other district and Sectoral officers attended the meeting.

DC informed that the object of organizing clean and green mission is to make the rural areas pollution free with emphasis on making panchayats polythene free and open defecation free. He said that green environment shall be taken as mission mode to bring behavioral improvement through sensitization.

Under the plan a Green Walk will be held at district headquarter and block level to educate and sensitize people about the mission. Communication to all stakeholders will be ensured through traditional Drum Beating and pasting of notices to highlight programme and schedule.Debates and Symposium on Clean and Green Mission will be organized by Chief Education Officer Kathua at all educational institutes besides reading pledge/ oath in morning assemblies. It was also informed that all panchayat level, all panchayat ghars, schools, government buildings including sanitary complexes will be cleaned before 28th July 2015. Clean & Green Mission (CGM) committees will educate the communities to adopt the best methods and practices to make their mohallas/ villages/panchayats/ block/district clean and green.

Initiatives like green activities /afforestation will be taken up by forest, Horticulture, Agriculture, Soil Conservation, Sericulture and Floriculture and Rural Development departments during the week long activities. The extensive plantation drive in all schools, government offices, panchayat ghars and other government land will also be held under the mission.

 DC laid stress for taking the mission to every government office so that cleanliness and hygiene of the work place can be ensured. He impressed upon the officers to ensure upkeep and cleanliness in the office premises including toilets, stairs, lift, parking lots, and pathways. Activities like weeding out of old files, records and disposal of unusable vehicles, furniture, electronics and electrical equipments shall also be taken under the drive.
