The sacred night of Shab-e Qadar (night of power) was observed across the subcontinent including Jammu and Kashmir with the zeal and fervour. The largest congregation in Kashmir was observed at historic Jamia Masjid where thousands of people, led by Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, participated in the night long prayers.Throwing light over the religious importance of the night, Mirwaiz said it was the night when first time Quran was revealed to Muslims. He said the book brought blessings, revolution and infused discipline, in the mankind.

In a statement to KNS, Mirwaiz said the Quran was the complete way of life for mankind and till judgement day Muslims would continue to be guided by the holy book. He said it was distressing that the Muslim world has put Quranic guidance and teaching on the back burner which has become the cause of suffering and anguish for them.Mirwaiz asked devotees to practically implement the teachings of Quran and Islam in their lives so as to bring positive reforms in the society.APHC Chairman stated the holy month of Ramadan gives us opportunity to reform our own selves and the society. He along with thousands of people prayed for the well being of Muslim Ummah. The gathering held special prayers for the suffering people of Palestine and Kashmir beseeching Allah for their independence.

Mirwaiz stressed upon the youth to follow the footsteps of prophet Muhammad (SWS) (PBUH) so as to eradicate social ills and bring reforms in the society. He said people should donate towards charity and help the poor and orphans.

Meanwhile people offered night long prayers and recited holy Qur’an in Jamia Masjids .Hundreds of people offered prayers at historic Jamia Masjid in Old City and remained awake for the whole night seeking forgiveness and prosperity for mankind. (KNS)
