Residents of a few low-lying areas in frontier Kupwara district are facing sleepless nights due to fear of possible deluge as rains continue to lash in the area from past few days. The villages including Bohipora, Hirri, Gushi and Drugmulla always face of a threat of deluge whenever water rises above danger mark in the nearby Kehmil and Lolab nullahs. And due continuous rains in past few days, the water level in these nallahs has gone up considerably, thus posing a considerable threat of floods in these villages.“If weather did not improve in a day or two, our localities may be flooded. Rain water has already entered lanes and bylanes and it is raining heavily since this afternoon," said Javid Ahmad War from Bohipora, a village located on banks of nallah Kehmil.Residents of Gushi and few other adjoining villages too are having same fears. “The water level is constantly rising and we are afraid that the locality may be submerged if rain did not stop," said Altaf Ahmad, a Gushi resident.Talking to KNS, District Development Commissioner Kupwara Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, however, said the situation was under control and people need not to panic.“Irrigation and flood control department is fully geared up to deal with the situation. So far, water level is well below the danger mark and people need not to panic," Kumar said.
