Peoples Political Party (PPP) Chairman and senior All Parites Hurriyat Conference leader Engineer Hilal Ahmad War and his partymen defied the curfew restrictions and broke the cordon carrying out a procession in memory of the July 13 martyrs. War was accompanied by senior Hurriyat leader and former JKLF Chief, Javed Ahmed Mir. The procession comprising of hundreds of party volunteers was carried out from War House, Maisuma and the activists were chanting pro-freedom slogans and hailing the martyrs. Despite a heavy contingent of forces deployed in and around Lal Chowk, the volunteers managed to break it. War said the blood of the martyrs won’t be allowed to go waste.

“Kashmiris have been making sacrifices not just from 47 when India occupied J&K, but well before that,” said War, “I salute my nation and its martyrs for their courage, resilience and faith in the sacredness of our movement.” Mir also paid rich tributes to the martyrs and the nation. “Our sacrifices won’t go waste, we won’t allow that,” said Mir. He reiterated that Kashmiris will fight till the attainment of freedom. The procession was later gheraoed and overpowered by police and War, Mir and some PPP activists were arrested. PPP activists Umar Paul, Basharat Mir, Burhan Rabbani, Yaqoob Dar and Dawood Mir were also detained.
