Srinagar , 07 Jul 2015

While condemning the arrest of scores of youths in Srinagar and other far-flung areas by the police during the nocturnal raids and a fresh process of crackdowns in villages by army and conducting of identification parades of common people during this holy month of Ramadan, Hurriyat (G) demanded release of all the arrested youths and other political prisoners before the Eid.Hurriyat (G) said that since the inception of the PDP-BJP alliance, the human rights violations has shown an increasing trend and a war like situation has been created from Jammu to Srinagar against the common people.

In a press release issued to KNS today, Hurriyat (G) Spokesman said that with the onset of the holy month of Ramadan, the police started crackdown against the youths of the many areas of downtown city and till now dozens of innocent students have been arrested and detained in different police stations where they are subjected to worst kind of custodial torture. “Many youths have gone underground to evade the arrest but the police is continuously harassing their families and are pressurizing them to produce their wards before the police otherwise they would be arrested in place of their children,” he said. The spokesman added that some parents of the arrested youths complained that police is demanding hefty amount as penalty for the release of their wards otherwise they are warned of slapping PSA against them. Scores of youths of Nawakadal, Rajourikadal, Kawdara and Zainakadal areas of Downtown have been locked up in different police stations from last 15 days. “However no case is registered against them”.

Hurriyat (G) also expressed its deep concern over the start of new process of crackdowns by the Indian army in different villages of Pulwama district where the fasting people are forced to wait in long queues for hours and then they are passed by an identification parade in a humiliating way. “This 90s like situation has created fear and threat among the common people of those areas. Many people have left to go to Masjids for the Taravhi (Night Prayers) in the evening and they close their doors with the onset of the evening,” Hurriyat (G) spokesman said.

While demanding the release of all the political prisoners including the arrested youths before the Eid, Hurriyat (G) said that there are still hundreds of Kashmiri prisoners in different jails of the state and out of the state and they are those people who are living this miserable life for no fault of theirs and majority of them are without trials. “These prisoners are even denied the facilities according to the jail manuals. No proper arrangements of treatment are available for them due to which their lives are in acute danger,” he said. Hurriyat (G) appealed the Amnesty International and other human rights organization to take serious notice of the pitiable condition of the Kashmiri prisoners in the Indian jails and use their influence in releasing these political prisoners.
