Deputy Commissioner R.K. Bhat today inaugurated Digital India Week here at a meeting of District Officers and educationists. The Deputy Commissioner while giving overview of the programme highlighted the importance of promoting e-governance to reduce government-citizen gap. He called for observing the programme across the district, saying it was imperative to promote its awareness among the people. He said new generation has to be essentially computer literate in order to be relevant in the new development trend. For the purpose, he highlighted the need for popularizing computer education.

The District Informatics Officer dwelt in detail about the aims and objectives of Digital India programme. He said the country is fast moving in the e-governance regime wherein the public services are delivered electronically. The concept, he said is to promote efficiency and transparency adding Digital India primarily focuses on citizen welfare.Among others, the meeting was attended by the District Officers, Tehsildars and Principals of educational institutes. Similar Digital India Week was also launched in Budgam, Ganderbal and other Districts.
