Minister for Transport Abdul Gani Kohli convened a meeting here today to review the progress achieved in streamlining the Transport sector in the state. He called for improving transport facility especially during evenings. Secretary Transport Mr. Bashir Ahmad Khan, Transport Commissioner, Mr. P. I. Khateeb, Managing Director, J&K SRTC Mr. J. S. Tandon, RTO Kashmir Mr. Mehmood Ahmad Shah and other senior officers of Transport Department were present in the meeting.
The Minister reviewed various initiatives taken of late to strengthen and streamline the transport network. Deliberations were also held on formulation of a Transport Policy that would address concerns of various quarters regarding the transport sector in the state.
The Minister stressed on taking effective steps to streamline traffic on various routes and issuing permits keeping in view the public requirement for transport. The Minister directed for improving the passenger services especially during evening hours for commuters of remote and rural areas. He also directed the Transport Commissioner to closely monitor pollution centres and check their equipments are fully functions.Meanwhile, the Minister also directed Managing Director SRTC to ensure improved services in transport deficient districts besides plying buses of good quality and fitness on these routes.
The Minister also called on the officers to ensure enforcement of Motor Vehicles Act and Rules and generate mass awareness through media regarding road safety and civic duties.
