Deputy Commissioner (DC), Reasi, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary today caught officials of commercial taxes department red handed while taking bribe from drivers near Domail on Katra-Jammu road. Excise Commissioner Kifayat Hussain Rizivi upon receipt of information about this incident placed four officers of department under suspension and ordered further enquiry. Additional Commissioner (CT) has been appointed as enquiry officer.The DC found a number of vehicles haphazardly parked on the highway and guards taking money from drivers near Domail. Traffic was disrupted on highway and it caused inconvenience to commuters. Upon enquiry the drivers informed that money was being demanded by the officials. The bribe amount and I-Cards of the officials were seized by the DC and information conveyed to Excise Commissioner who placed all the officials under suspension with immediate effect.
Identified as Inspector Amandeep Singh, Sub-Inspector Abdul Rehman, and Gaurds Mohit Sharma and Mohd Rustam laid a naka near Domail where they were caught red handed and eyewitness confirmed the Deputy Commissioner about receipt of money. Inspector was suspended for negligence of duty and other for involving in corrupt practices. A number of complaints have been received from section of media and transporters about such nakas where money was being charged by uniformed persons.The district administration has already initiated a process to curb any such practice in the area especially on Katra-Shiv Khori road. Taking a serious note of corrupt practices adopted in transport management, the DC has issued directions for surprise check at such nakas.
