Comrade Sita Ram Yechuri, General Secretary, CPI(M) nnounced that CPI(M) will observe this year as ‘ Birtg Centenary Year of Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet’ , world renowned communist leader, freedom fighter and former General Secretary of CPI(M) . He was addressing a Press Conference at Bhakna Bhawan here today. He disclosed that an international seminar on ‘ ANTI IMPERIALISM , FUNDAMENTALISM AND COMMUNALISM ‘ will be held in Punjab in the month of March , 2016 alongwith a massive rally to mark the commemoration. He also declared that the party will take up programmes through out the year to free the youth of Punjab from the clutches of drug addiction which is ruining the future of Punjab and the country. He elaborated that various programmes will be conducted to high light the contribution of Punjabis in the freedom movement,, patriotic movements and communal harmony.Commenting on the Modi led BJP government Com Yechuri said , “ All sections of society are adversely affected due to the pro corporate and anti people policies of the Modi led BJP government.
There is great resentment among the masses due to sky rocketing price rise, unemployment, hike in petrol & diesel prices, imposition of taxes, attacks on minorities and costly education and health services”, i , General Secretary, CPI(M) while addressing a Press Conference at Bhakna Bhawan here today. He declared that various farmers organizations and Political Parties will launch agitation against the anti- peasant Land Acqusition Amendment Ordinance brought by the Modi government and issues aggravating the agrarian crisis during the month of August. He further told that the Agricultural Labour unions, youth and student organizations have also decided to launch struggles against unemployment and commercialization of education during the month of August. . Explaining the anti labour policies of the Modi government, Comrade Yechuri said that all Central Trade Unions including trade unions like BMS a pro BJP union, INTUC, affiliated to Congress and Left unions like CITU, AITUC and federations & Associations of central and state governments have decided to go on one day total strike on 2nd September, 2015.
Comrade Yechuri criticized the Modi government for its anti peasant attitude on Land Acquisition Amendment Ordinance which will ruin the already debt ridden peasantry. He disclosed that there is an increase of 26 % in suicides by farmers this year which shows deep crisis in agriculture.Later in the evening addressing a party meeting, Comrade Yechuri called upon the cadres to strengthen CPI(M) and Left Unity which alone can fight the anti people policies of the Modi led BJP government. While commenting on the National situation he stated that the formation of MOdi led BJP government has set the stage for a right wing offensive comprising pursuit of neo-liberal policies and a full scale attempt by the RSS led Hindutava forces to advance their communal agenda. He stressed the paramount need for building a left and democratic front based on a programme of alternative po9licies which will address the concerns of the workers, peasants and other democratic sections of society. He felt that the campaigns and struggles on social issues are need of the hour . He further said that such a conjuncture presages growing authoritarianism.He explained the decisions of 21st All India Party Congress held at Visakhapatnam from 14-19 April, 2015 .
