3 ‘infiltrators’ killed near LoC

Three suspected infiltrators were killed in a fierce gunfight near Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam sector of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.Official sources told GNS that during intervening night of Friday/Saturday, a group of 4-5 infiltrators were intercepted after they sneaked in to this part of Kashmir near Atma Posts Ist and 2nd in the Nowgam sector by army’s 3 Kamaon Regiment.After being challenged, the group of suspected militants, according to sources, opened heavy volume of fire upon the forces. The fire was retaliated ensuing fierce gunfight that lasted for several hours.During the encounter, three unidentified infiltrators were killed, they said, adding that the overall operation is monitored by the army’s 19 INF DIV based in Baramulla.

Meanwhile, army’s Srinagar based defence ministry official, Colonel Brijesh Panday while confirming the killing of three infiltrators to GNS said that the group was intercepted by the alert troops last night around 10:00 PM.He said that the search operation in the area is still in progress.Meanwhile, 15 Chinar Corps Commander, Lt General Subrata Saha, told reporters in Baramulla that cache of arms and other war-like stores were recovered from the militants and the search operation was underway when last reports came in.
