Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, Jahangir Mir Tuesday stressed on expeditious completion of school buildings taken up under SSA and RMSA, saying ready availability of infrastructure facilitates the goal to universalize education.Chairing a meeting of concerned sectoral officers here, the Deputy Commissioner laid thrust on making land available to left over educational institutes. He asked Tehsildars to attend the issue on top most priority. The Deputy Commissioner constituted teams with members from Education, R&B and Revenue departments to inspect the school buildings. These teams have been directed to come up with reports within a week regarding safety of the school buildings.

It was given out in the meeting that 314 Primary schools stand constructed out of the set target of 403 under SSA. Under RMSA as many as 5 school buildings have come up and taken over while 17 are nearing completion. Out of 82 Middle Schools, 69 buildings stand completed under SSA. It was given out that out of 930 additional class rooms, 523 have been completed so far.The meeting had a threadbare discussion on convergence Plan and it was decided that leveling of land in undulated areas would be taken up by dovetailing to facilitate construction of schools.Jahangir also emphasized on intensifying market checking to keep hoarders and black marketers bon bay. He said unscrupulous traders and shopkeepers should be dealt with sternly. “Nobody will be allowed to fleece the consumers on the festival days”. The Assistant Director CAPD was directed to ensure stocking of food grains and other essentials in the cut off areas in advance so that people don’t face any problem in the winter on account of shortage of essentials.
