New Delhi , 15 May 2015

The Supreme Court on Friday permitted 2008 Bangalore serial bomb blast conspiracy prime accused and People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Nazir Maudany to travel to Kerala for five days to see his ailing mother.A bench of Justice J. Chelameswar and Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said that Maudany would not misuse his liberty and before leaving Bengaluru, he would inform the city police commissioner about his travel plans. The court order permitting him to step out of Bengaluru came after the court was told that the trial in the case has now been shifted to National Investigation Agency (NIA) court which alone has jurisdiction to try some of the scheduled offences. While Karnataka government told the court that it would another one year, the NIA judge in a separate letter informed the court that it would take two years for the trial to conclude.

The couyrt was apparently displeased over the development as on November 14 last year, it had asked the Karnataka government to conclude the trial in four months.Maudany was arrested on Aug 17, 2010, in connection with the conspiracy in serial bomb blast case.He was granted bail on July 11, 2014, which was extended by two weeks August 11, 2014 and the same was extended by four months on November 14 as court had given Karnataka four months time to conclude the trial. While granting bail to Maudany on July 11, the court had asked him not to leave the city and furnish to police the address where he would be staying during bail period.
