Two militants were killed and another was arrested in separate operations by security forces in Assam and Meghalaya, a defence ministry official said here on Friday.A commander of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was killed during an operation in Meghalaya's North Garo Hills district, defence ministry spokesman Lt Col Suneet Newton said. "Based on specific information an operation was carried out at the residence of Sanjay alias Gobat in Mendipathar in North Garo Hills on Thursday night," he said. The GNLA commander was killed in the operation, Newton said, adding that a 7.62 mm pistol and large quantity of ammunition were recovered from him.
In another operation in Assam on Friday, a joint team of army and police busted a National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) camp in Chirang Reserve Forest in Kokrajhar district. One cadre of the group was killed during gunfight. The defence ministry spokesman said one factory made 7.65 mm pistol, one country made rifle, 200 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and 14 grenades have been recovered from the hideout. Another NDFB cadre was arrested from Kamrup district and recovered 10 rounds of AK 47 ammunition, several 7.62 mm and 7.65 mm pistols and detonators from his possession.
