Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Dr. Charanjit Singh Atwal today sought constant and better coordination between members of Commonwealth Parliament Association (CPA) to witness a new impetus in growth of Asian countries. He said that with the active participation of members of CPA would create new employment avenues for youth especially in agriculture, business, industrial, skill management and skill training.While meeting the Malaysian Parliamentarian during weeklong Mid Year Meeting of the Executive Committee of Commonwealth Parliament Association (CPA) held at Kota Kinabalu, Sabha, Malaysia, Dr. Atwal said both nations could script new chapters of development, growth and prosperity in the region. Dr. Atwal also met Senator Jaspal Singh & Senator Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman Members of Parliament of Malaysia along with R.S.Sodhi. They advocated the need to strengthen relationship between Malaysia and India.
Dr. Atwal also attended the meeting as Regional Representative from India Region in the Meeting of Executive Committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.It is pertinent to mention here that the Commonwealth Parliament Association (CPA) was founded in 1911 as the Empire Parliamentary Association (EPA). The Empire Parliamentary Association as rechristened as Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in 1948. India became a member of CPA in 1949 after the Indian Parliamentary Group was formed in that year. The IPG functions as the India Branch of the CPA. Dr. Charanjit Singh Atwal, Speaker Legislative Assembly of Punjab and Former Deputy Speaker, Lok Sabha Parliament of India had been instrumental in promoting the principles and ethics of CPA in India, especially in the CPA Punjab India Branch. His ability as a Parliamentarian-par-excellence and his dedication towards the cause of Commonwealth Union was elected as Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in September 2001. His services had again been befittingly complimented as he was again been nominated as Regional Representative from India Region in the Executive Committee of CPA in 2014.
