Freedom fighter Dr Narinder Singh has been shifted by the District Administration to Guru Amar Dass Apahaj Ashram in village Sarabha of the district. Azad Hind Fauj veteran Dr Narinder Singh had undergone a surgery of his hip joint at Hero DMC Heart Institute, here and is fully fit now. Due to the efforts of Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal, Punjab government had borne all cost incurred on the freedom fighter's treatment. Dr Narinder Singh was discharged from the hospital today and DC Mr Rajat Agarwal was present on the spot. It is pertinent to mention that Dr Narinder Singh, who is around 105 years old, was residing in Government High School, Dholewal Chowk, Ludhiana, for the last many years and the area residents were taking care of his daily needs. But around a month back, he injured his hip joint, due to which he was bedridden. 

When the Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal came to know about it, he rushed to the Government High School, Dholewal Chowk and inquired about his health. It was then that the Deputy Commissioner announced that the District Administration would get him treated and that the Punjab government would bear all the expenses.It was on March 20, 2015 when Dr Narinder Singh was admitted in Hero DMC Heart Institute, here, where surgery of his hip joint was carried out successfully. Besides this, he was also treated for some skin related ailments and some other health related complications.After being discharged from hospital, Dr Narinder Singh looked even more confident and even walked using a walking aid himself. He also thanked the Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal, Dr Gurpreet Singh Wander, Dr Sandeep Puri, Dr Naved Aslam, Dr Pankaj Mahindra, Dr Gurinder Kaur, other hospital staff, school teachers Mr Sukhdev Singh, lecturer Mr Deepinderpal Singh, social activist Miss Ruchi Bawa and all others.

Freedom fighter Dr Narinder Singh was an active member of the Azad Hind Fauj founded by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and fought the British in many battles.While speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal said that the freedom fighters are our priceless treasures and gems of the society. He said that the country cannot pay for their efforts and that is why it becomes our duty to take care of them.Around an year ago also, the Deputy Commissioner had requested Dr Narinder Singh to shift to the Old Age Home run by Red Cross Society at Ludhiana, but Dr Narinder Singh as well as residents of Dholewal Chowk area, who were taking card of him, had refused the offer. The District Administration had also got his pension started, which had stopped for some time.
