The Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Thaawar Chand Gehlot gave away the National Merit Awards to Meritorious Students of Secondary & Sr. Secondary School 2014 conducted by State/Central Education Boards/Councils under Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Awards here today. Under the scheme 84 Students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes category were given the Awards. Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that the his Ministry is committed to give all possible support to Students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communities in advancing their academic careers and boosting their careers prospects. He encouraged the Students to put in lot of hard work to ensure that they get their rightful place in the society. Reminding them of the spectacular achievements of Dr. Ambedkar against all odds, he exhorted the award winning students to emulate him and work for the betterment of the society and the country. 

The Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar said that students belonging to SCs and STs should take advantage of various schemes of the Central Government to enhance their future prospects. He said that award winning students should realize the importance of education as it is the key to resolve all their problems. Secretary, (SJ&E) Ms. Anita Agnihotri also spoke on the occasion and encouraged the students to put in more hard work to further their academic careers. The Ambedkar National Merit Award are given to three SC/ST students scoring highest marks in the Secondary/Sr. Secondary examinations conducted by all the State Education Boards and Councils etc. In case none of the first three eligible students are girls, the girl students scoring the highest marks are given special award.
