Sangrur MP Vijay Inder Singla informed that with his efforts, the proposal to upgrade the War Heroes Stadium at Sangrur with Central funds under the Urban Sports Infrastructure Scheme (USIS) has been approved by the Union Sports Minister this month.Singla stated that Rs 7 crores will be spent for laying the Synthetic Athletic Track at the Sangrur Stadium out of which Centre will finance Rs 5.5 crores and balance Rs 1.5 crores will be contributed from his MPLAD fund. The Work regarding laying of Synthetic track will be carried out by National Building Construction Company (N.B.C.C). Injustice done to Sangrur by senior Akali leaders by ignoring the rightful claims of sports enthusiasts in the area will now no longer come in the way of sports development and soon a state of the art sports facility will also be available in Sangrur said Vijay Inder Singla, MP.

Singla also informed that he has also requested the Union Sports Minister to upgrade the existing sports infrastructure at SAI Centre in Sangrur by including more sporting disciplines like taekwondo, badminton, lawn tennis and badminton in addition to the existing disciplines of athletics, boxing and volleyball.  Moreover all SAI Centres should allow people from all age groups to use the sports facilities under the ‘Come & Play Scheme’ and not restrict these to 8-17 age group only.Sangrur MP further informed that UPA has provided substantial funds under PYKKA to Punjab to upgrade rural sports facilities at village level and wondered as to why the Punjab Govt has not been seeking PYKKA funds from Central Govt for the last two years and whether the interests of rural Youth are being furthered by such functioning of the State Govt.
