Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik Saturday alleged New Delhi has subjected people of Jammu Kashmir to worst kind of oppression and torture from many decades.“This is a glaring example of its reluctance to honor freedom and human rights of people. Therefore the republic day of a nation that has snatched the freedom of a poor nation, can never be a day of joy for oppressed people. Indian ministers especially those belonging to Jammu should shun their daydreaming about changing demography of Jammu Kashmir in the garb of West Pakistan refugees,” Malik said in a statement to KNS.

While calling for a complete shutdown and strike on January 26, he said, “India celebrates its republic day on 26th January every year. India calls itself the biggest democracy of the world but this is the nation that has by using its military might snatched the freedom of Kashmiris and is continuously denying us this right. Not only this but India has subjected people of Jammu Kashmir to worst kind of oppression and torture for asking freedom.”

“The republic day of a nation that has by military might snatched the freedom of a poor nation can never be the day of joy for oppressed people and because of this we Kashmiris are compelled to observe this day as a black day. People of Jammu Kashmir through their complete shutdown and strike will observe this day 26th January as a black day. All kinds of transport, business centers and other activities will come to stand still and Kashmiris through their peaceful protest will convey a message to the whole world that people of Jammu Kashmir despite all oppression are continuing their struggle for freedom,” the JKLF chairman said. While reiterating his pledge to defend the special status of Jammu Kashmir, Malik said, “Proposals of granting permanent citizenship of Jammu Kashmir to refugees from West Pakistan is actually an attack on our existence and Indian leaders especially those belonging to Jammu should know that Kashmiris will defend the special status of Jammu Kashmir even at the cost of their lives.”

“As humans we also share the pain of refugees from West Pakistan but if Indian state, Indian parliament, political parties and religious fanatics of Jammu are concerned about these humans why don’t they settle them permanently in states of India like Punjab, Haryana, and U.P. The refugees from West Pakistan are in every respect the citizens of India and granting them  permanent citizenship of Jammu Kashmir, right to vote etc are a  conspiracy to destroy the existing social fabric of Jammu Kashmir, change the demography of the state and destroy its majority Muslim status,” he said.

The JKLF chairman said that people of Jammu Kashmir will never remain silent spectators over these conspiracies and we will defend the special status of Jammu Kashmir, its Muslim character, its ecology and environment even at the cost of their lives. “Indian ministers especially those belonging to Jammu are day in and out issuing statements about these refugees. These hate mongers have always tried to ignite the environment of Jammu Kashmir through their dirty politics but they should know that people of Jammu Kashmir will never let their conspiracies to succeed. These Indian ministers should shun their daydreaming about changing demography of Jammu Kashmir in the garb of West Pakistan refugees,” Malik said.

While expressing tributes to late king Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia who died day before, Malik expressed condolences to the bereaved family  and to the people of Saudi Arabia and said that late leader was a visionary who led Islamic world using his leadership abilities.
